In the Spring of 2013, GW Tatro was awarded its largest single VAOT contract to date. The project consisted of major improvements along VT Route 7/US Route 2 near its intersection with VT Route 2A. Some of the biggest components of the project included 13,000 CM of common excavation, 11,000 CM of trench excavation, 7,000 CM of dense graded crushed stone, 1,400 M of drainage pipe, over 50 precast structures, 600 M of water pipe, and 2 new traffic signals. A few of the biggest challenges were dealing with the 10,000 vehicles per day, encountering petroleum contaminated soils and completing an accelerated road closure period in which we had 47 days to reconstruct a major section of the road while maintaining a temporary detour. The road closure portion of the work was completed 3 days ahead of schedule. The project is currently expected to be completed in the Summer of 2018.
