Honesty. Integrity. A common sense approach. These are the values that Dawn Tatro lives by and strives to imbue G.W. Tatro Construction with. She sees them as essential, American, and knows that the company is the stronger for embodying them. Dawn endeavors to bring a more human touch to G.W. Tatro that is characteristic of the small town Vermont she grew up in. “We are a family owned business,” she says, and believes in doing right by all those who work there. As CFO, Dawn is best positioned to accomplish these goals. She handles all the duties of a human resources officer, and the chief financial officer in charge of the fiscal management decisions of the company, its economic reporting and its planning.
Dawn received her degree in accounting from Champlain College in 1986. She handled accounts receivable for a local ski resort after graduating, then spent time working for a private accounting company. As time went on, she began to manage several of the family businesses that she and her husband, Greg, owned. She handled financials for a variety of endeavors: a snowplowing company, a sand and gravel business, a horse farm, a few rental companies, and a local deli. In 2003, Dawn was brought into G.W. Tatro to help the company get a better understanding of its finances. She helped to overhaul the entire accounting system as controller. When Greg and Dawn bought the company in 2005, she became Chief Financial Officer/Vice President, and has worked in close conjunction with Greg to confront the challenges of a fast changing industry. In 2011, Dawn became president of Tatro Pipeline, a successful spin off of G.W. Tatro that worked on gas lines in Western Pennsylvania. She and Greg sold the company in 2013.
Dawn is proud of her work at G.W. Tatro: she treasures the people that work for the company and their families. “We really care about each and every one of our employees. I think of them as part of the family.” In the end, she feels that “the longevity of our company shows the commitment that we have as a team.”
Dawn is an enthusiastic grandmother, and loves spending time with her new grandson, Eisen Tatro. She loves to take him on the tractor and lawnmower, and to show him around her horse farm. She also loves to travel, and treasures the time she spends with friends and family in Costa Rica.
